Sun: Fuerteventura is more than 1500 km close to the Equator than Mallorca! You should be particularly wary of the sun here, as the intensity of its rays is usually underestimated because of the wind. At the beginning of your holiday particularly, you should not expose yourself to the sun for more than 20 minutes. Even sun protection creams with a high light protection factor do not provide ideal protection, as they are often involved in causing skin allergies. The best thing is to get your skin used to the sun gradually, by building up your exposure time by 5-10 minutes each day. Even just 15 minutes' sun-bathing on the first day of a holiday can be enough to cause sunburn in sensitive skin types!
Food & drink: Your
digestion also needs time to adjust to strange food. Canary Isles food
is usually low in calories and easily digestible, but if you are not
used to so much olive oil and garlic, you should start with small quantities.
Beware of mixing alcohol and sun!
Swimming: Respect the sea and do
not venture out too far. The sea currents can be dangerous.
Sport: There
are plenty of sports facilities on Fuerteventura. Remember your actual
level of fitness, and don't try to do too much!
After
all, you are on holiday!
Ear-ache: If
you get ear-ache, it is advisable to see a doctor. Inflamation of the
middle ear may well mean that you are in no fit condition to fly, as
your ear-drums will not not be able to adjust to changes in air pressure.
The result could be acute pain, or even burst ear-drums.
And even while on holiday, never forget "Safer
Sex".
